On June 12,1982 the four Goedken boys acquired a step- father, Dr. Jerry Ready.  Jerry was working with the Area Education Agency in Davenport, Iowa and, after the marriage, commuted from Iowa City for a number of months.  It was decided that they should move to Davenport by the end of the summer so John Paul could begin his four years of high school at Assumption. It was difficult moving, but the Jerry soon had the new house on Cheyenne avenue all fixed up.  About four years later, Jerry became ill had to have an emergency quadruple bypass operation. Under Bonnie's nursing care, he was soon back to work again.  In 1988, Jerry retired after ?? years in the educational field.  Since all the boys were grown and living on their own, Bonnie and Jerry decided to move to Vincennes, Indiana- Jerry's hometown.

Since retirement, Jerry has kept busy building 5 new homes (including his own) and doing various other building-related projects.  However, he did suffer more heart problems and had to have a second quadruple bypass, and soon after a gallbladder operation.  Bonnie also developed some heart problems, and in 2001, she has two heart stents put in.  Since moving to Vincennes, Bonnie took on the director of religious education at the local church and has volunteered at the hospital in town.  They both travel in the winter and play cards weekly with friends.  Bonnie travels to see family as often as possible.
